Hi. I’m Nick.
Therapist, Former Teacher, and Salida, Colorado Local Since 2008
From the Classroom to the Counseling Room.
I started my career as a teacher.
I loved working with kids — the energy, the curiosity, the moments when something clicked. But I kept noticing something: the conversations that mattered most weren't happening during class.
It was the student who stayed after the bell. The one who lingered by my desk, clearly carrying something heavy. The one who finally said, "Hey, can I talk to you about something?"
And I'd look at the clock and think: "I have five minutes before the next class. I just spent an hour talking about George Washington. And THIS is what actually matters."
That tension stuck with me. I realized I wanted to spend my time on the things that really help people — not just covering curriculum.
So I Made a Change.
I left teaching and joined the Peace Corps, living in southern Africa for two years. It was one of the hardest, most isolating experiences of my life.
I felt anxious, lonely, and far from home. For the first time, I saw a therapist myself — and I experienced firsthand how powerful it is to have someone truly listen.
When I came back, I knew I wanted to help people the way I'd been helped. I got a Master's in Youth Development, then a second Master's in Clinical Mental Health to become a licensed therapist. It was a long road — but I'd do it all over again.
Now, instead of teaching history, I help people write the next chapter of their own story.
Why "Full Cycle" Therapy?
I've lived in Salida since 2008. I know these mountains and these trails. Mountain biking is one of my favorite ways to clear my head — and it's also where the name "Full Cycle" comes from.
A full cycle isn't about ending up where you started. It's about moving through something — the hard parts, the steep climbs, the moments when you want to stop — and coming out the other side with new skills, new perspective, and a sense of accomplishment.
That's what I want for my clients. I don't want you to stay stuck in the same loop. I want to help you move through whatever you're facing and come out stronger on the other side.
How I Work.
I use research-backed tools — CBT, DBT, EMDR, mindfulness, and trauma-informed Yoga Nidra.
But I'll never drown you in acronyms.
My real differentiator is the relationship. Research shows that a good fit with your therapist accounts for 30% of the outcome. So I start there: building trust, listening deeply, and making sure you feel safe and understood.
I also bring my whole self to this work. I'm a husband, a mountain biker, a former Peace Corps volunteer, and a Salida local who genuinely cares about this community.
